The sidebar
Every value the subreddit's sidebar showed in the Wayback Machine's captures, when each was seen, and which posts use it as a key or contain it.
A858's subreddit had a sidebar, and in 2011 the sidebar was part of the puzzle. It showed GUID-shaped strings, the account name and MD5 values, and some of them are the keys of posts. This page lists every distinct value the sidebar showed in the Wayback Machine's captures of the subreddit, with the dates each was seen.
Finding: the sidebar showed 28 distinct values in five periods. In July 2011 it showed eleven GUID-shaped strings, then eight more, then the account name and its MD5. In August 2011, by a comment's account, it showed the MD5 of a grid, which is the key of jkuyr. From November 2011 to January 2012 it showed two short strings, in July to October 2014 two Dogecoin addresses and a number, and in March 2016 a closing message. Most captures from August 2012 to September 2016 show no sidebar text at all.

What the values are
- Keys. The MD5 of the account name,
34a14a42…, is the key of 550 posts on this site. The first capture showing it is from 7 July 2011, but igmjv, posted on 4 July, is already keyed with it. - 0000DE45. Its MD5,
68c0bf44…, is the key of three posts from 28 and 29 December 2011 (nt82j, nu9gx and nu9l9). The first capture showing0000DE45is from 29 December at 06:34 UTC, after all three were posted. - jkuyr. Its key is the MD5 of the grid in jkscb,
bbb21a10…, used directly without a second MD5. jkscb was posted at 19:39 UTC on 16 August 2011 and jkuyr at 20:53. A comment that evening reports that the sidebar changed to this value with jkuyr, but no capture of the sidebar shows it. How the value was meant to be found is on the GIF posts page. - igmjv. The capture of 5 July 2011 holds all eight of its GUIDs. The first GUID of igmjv
is missing its first eight characters in the post; they are the start of the sidebar value
529bf170…, which ends with the characters the post keeps. igmjv was posted a day before that capture. - Dogecoin. 27po7c spells out the first address,
DH3FBK…, which the sidebar showed from 2 July 2014. The second,DAVNTss…, is from late August 2014. The number17596Cwas shown in 2014, more than a year before two payments of 17,596 DOGE each went intoDAVNTss…in August 2015. - The GUIDs of 3 July 2011 are in no post on this site.
- Nothing at the 2013 key change. In 2011 the sidebar carried a key while the GIF posts taught how to use it. When the key changed in October 2013, it carried nothing: every capture of the main subreddit from August 2013 to January 2014 shows an empty sidebar, and so do the front pages of r/A858DE45 and the account's other subreddits.
Reading the dates
Each date is a capture of the subreddit page by the Wayback Machine, in UTC. The table gives the first and last capture that showed a value and how many captures did. A value shown at two captures was not necessarily there at every time between them, and a change that was reverted between captures would not appear at all. A value marked quoted in a comment has no capture: the only evidence is a comment, dated to the day.
What is still open
- What
00000000 00000004means. It was in the sidebar at captures from 7 to 11 November 2011, and is not explained. - Why
17596Cwas shown in 2014. It matches the 2015 payments, but the sidebar showed it more than a year before them.
